"Comprehensive Forensic Odontology and the Radiographs used in Forensic Identification”

This lecture will focus on the facets of Forensics, its distinctness, methods, systems and techniques. You will learn how forensics aids in the ID’ing of Individuals, management of mass disasters, use of teeth for identification,  analysis of abuse and malpractice cases.

Dr. Tena Phillips, DDS.RDH.  Dr. Phillip’s began her career as a hygienist then continued her studies and completed dental school in 1986. She has worked in nursing homes, managed dental programs for the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Health department and ran a private practice in Hixson, TN for 15 years. Dr. Phillips currently is a full-time faculty member at Chattanooga State. Dr. Phillips is an active member of several organizations including ADA, TDA, ADHA, and TNDHA and Chattanooga Area Dental and Dental Hygiene Associations.  She has served on the American Dental Education Association Advisory Committee and is currently chair of its Dental Assisting Section. She also serves on the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation. She is an advocate for dentistry, Dr. Phillips frequently lobbies for dental educaiton, research, insurance reform, and community water fluoridation at both state and national levels.

“Radiology Refresh, Common Radiographic Pathology in 2D and 3D Imaging”

This interactive lecture offers a focused review of radiographic interpretation, emphasizing the recognition of common findings and pathology in both 2D (intraoral and panoramic)and 3D(CBCT) dental imaging. Attendees will revisit key anatomical landmarks, learn to differentiate normal variants from pathology, and enhance their diagnostic accuracy through case-based discussion. The session is designed to reinforce clinical relevance and sharpen interpretive skills across multiple imaging modalities.

Dr. Shaza Mardini, DDS, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist and ABOMR Diplomate. Dr. Mardini received her DDS degree from Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 2001. She began a speciality residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in 2002 and graduated with a M.S. and certification in Diagnostic Sciences and Radiology.  In 2006, Dr. Mardini became board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (ABOMR), she has served various officer positions including director of the ABOMR board. Dr. Mardini joined LMU in April 2022 teaching the inaugural radiology class for dental and dental hygiene students. Her teaching includes acquisition of images and interpretation both of 2D and 3D imaging. Additionally, Dr. Mardini teaches radiology for the forensic odontologists. She holds several committee positions including Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at LMU College of Dental Medicine.
