Description
Infective endocarditis (IE), also referred to as bacterial endocarditis (BE), is an infection caused by certain bacteria that enter the bloodstream and settle in the heart lining, a heart valve or a blood vessel. Infective endocarditis is uncommon, but people with some heart conditions have a higher risk of developing it (AHA, 2018).
